More Storytimes now in colour!

This week has been a productive week, after another unsuccessful group meeting with my tutor who failed to give me any of his time, I went home and started on my colour/mood designs for my film. I'll show them now and talk about them in a moment.

As you can see I have gone through a bunch of different colours. I'm still not finished with how I want my colour scheme to be like just yet, but I love the warm, amber feel of films just as, "Fantastic Mr Fox", "Where the Wild Things Are", So when I came up with my originally concept I wasn't pleased at all, the colours were blend, boring and disinterested, I slowly started to add yellows there, a bit of orange there and then replacing an entire colour for a warmer colour.

The only issue I have now, though with the last two images is, though I like them more, and they feel like my style, and would fit this film. I find that because they are warm colours people will think that we are in Autumn or during a sunset, which is not when my film takes place. My film takes place during mid to late summer and will happen during the morning or day time. This is only for the battle between the girl and the dragon in her tale, when she is talking to her class about what she did, it will be early September.

I have also finished my storyboard now. I'm going to be showing it to my tutor tomorrow. I have a few things to change though, such as the ending I found the current ending where the

I changing it to having her come home her mum asks her how her day was at school she explains that no one believed her, the mum is sympathises for her daughter but doesn't also thinks she is making it up. The mother also says to the girl that she found something she thinks is from on of her toys and hands it over to her. It turns out to be a the claw that came off during the fight between the dragon and the girl.

In not going to redo my storyboard though, I'm just going to make the changes in the animatic. Will save me time I think and my animatic will help give my fellow students and tutors a more visual idea if what I am doing and how I will get the message across To my viewers. I find that my lead tutor doesn't and has never really gotten me in my three years bring at uni which sucks as this person can give some amazing advice, but sometimes it is never relevant to me since he does quiet get me. Anyyyyyyy way I'm going off topic.

Here is my finished storyboard I promised to show last week.

Storyboarding times

Hey it is that time of week again, I spoken to my tutor who read my script on Tuesday and we spent some time going through it. The main issue at the end that my tutor had a problem with, which is understandable as it was a bit on the awful side but I couldn't figure out how to change it. Any way we spoke about taking the ending outside the school to show that it just isn't the children not believing the girl but it was even people outside int he world, just as her own mother, so the film continues after she gets teased at school for beaning a liar and once she gets home her mother is comforting but you can tell from her voice that she too doesn't believe her either and just before the end the audience will find out that she actually wasn't lying but it isn't done in an obvious way such as seeing the dragon or being actually told it....I'm still working on that part, but I will be sure to let you know when I figure it out, of course I wont tell you the full details as it will spoil the fun.

Other than that I have mainly been working on my story board which is taking long than I thought as choreographing the fight scene between the girl and the dragon.

here are some of the shots that I have done so far.

I will go more in depth about the shots in the next blog, for when I finish my storyboard

Thoughts - Fork in the Road

I want to do some work this evening, but I don't know were to start. =/

I'm starting my storyboard tomorrow after i get some feed back from my tutor about my script. I think I will continue with making some character designs or listen to soundtracks to get a feel for what type of sounds/ music I want in my film.

I'm not really in the mood for drawing right now so I will just grab my headphones and bop my head away.

I will post music I like which I feel might benefit my film on this blog too. So keep a look out for that too.

Writing and Drawing

(Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 2009, Sony Pictures Animation)

This week has pushed me into some areas I though I couldn't do or even just areas were I'm not very good in them. This week I have mainly been focusing on my script, character designs and some very early concepts to help visual some parts of the script out. I've sent my script off to one of my tutors who specializes in story telling to get her opinion and advice on improving my story. I have been looking into what films/video games I really like and would like to aspire to be like, I also did the same for directors too here is a list of them.

Film, TV & Video Games

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009) - Sony Pictures Animation
Ponyo (2008) - Studio Ghibli
How to Train Your Dragon (2010) - Dreamworks
Horton Hear a Who! (2008) - Blue Sky Studios
Costume Quest (2010) - Double Finn
Were the Wild Things Are (2009) - Legendary Pictures
SPACED (1999 - 2001) - Big Talk Productions
Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) - 20th Centery Fox Animation

And for Directors:

Edger Wright
Wes Anderson
Spike Jones

Here are some of my sketches, they are very early and no were near to the finish product. The dragon I am designing is based of the red squirrel as the fight scene takes place in a local park and I thought it would be very fitting to have the dragon slightly based off a park animal and a squirrel seemed the best candidate for the job. I am still thinking on colours for everything in my film, the dragon will be an almost candy red something very similar to the colour of the red squirrel. Here are the sketches
